THI Skills Workshop at 10 West Street

THI Skills Workshop at 10 West Street - 30 November 2017

A demonstration and workshop featuring the maintenance of traditional box window frames and mechanisms is to be held at 10 West Street, Tavistock at 10.00 a.m. on Thursday 30 November 2017. This will be staged by the main contractors Unicorn Construction South West Ltd. and coincides with repair and restoration work currently proceeding on traditional double hung sash windows. 10 West Street is a Grade II listed building of early-mid-19th century construction, currently occupied by a hairdresser’s salon on the ground floor with residential accommodation on upper floors. This is the second privately owned building to undergo conservation work as part of the Tavistock Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI), which benefits from a Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) grant of nearly £1 million. As well as the demonstration and workshop this event will provide an opportunity to see at first hand progress with the restoration scheme which involves roof, chimney, masonry and window repairs as well as reinstatement of cast iron rainwater good and the original copper-framed shopfront. Anyone who would like to attend should contact Martin Searle, THI Project Manager at martin.searle@tavistock.gov.uk or telephone 07535 133414
